Delete Your Account and Data
You have complete control over your data. You can delete your Smidgen account and all associated cloud-stored information at any time, either directly from the Android application or via this web portal.
Option A: In-App Deletion
The fastest method if you have the Smidgen application installed on your Android device:
- Open Smidgen on your Android phone.
- Tap your profile picture in the top right. This opens Account.
- Tap Delete account at the bottom of the screen.
- Confirm, and enter your password again if asked.
Option B: Web Request
If you have uninstalled the app or cannot access your Android device, you can submit a manual deletion request:
Send an email from the email address registered with your Smidgen account to:
Subject: Account Deletion Request
Please include your registered email address and confirmation that you wish to erase all associated data.
What Happens When You Delete Your Account
When an account deletion request is processed, the following actions are executed permanently:
1. Cloud Account & Authentication Records
Your Google Firebase Authentication user record, unique User Identifier (UID), login credentials, and session tokens are permanently erased.
2. Synced Recipe & Culinary Data (Cloud Firestore)
All documents belonging to your account across Cloud Firestore are deleted permanently: saved recipes, custom adaptations, collections, meal plan schedules, shopping lists, and feedback you have sent.
3. Recipe Photographs (Google Cloud Storage)
Every recipe image and photograph stored under your account directory (users/{uid}/recipePhotos/), and any screenshot attached to feedback (users/{uid}/feedback/), is purged from storage buckets.
4. Local Device Storage
If you perform deletion from within the app, local SQLite database caches, cook session history, and cached image thumbnails are immediately wiped from device storage, returning the app to an unauthenticated first-run state.
Data Retention Policy
We do not retain backup copies of deleted recipe collections or personal profile information after erasure.
Subscription Records: If you purchased a Smidgen Plus subscription through Google Play, transaction and billing history is managed directly by Google Play Billing according to Google's statutory financial record retention policies. Cancelling your account does not automatically cancel an active Google Play subscription; please cancel any recurring subscription through the Google Play Store app (Google Play Subscriptions).
